French Malicorne 9-1/2 Plate Pouplard-Beatrix PBx Faience Quimper. For sale is a wonderful Antique French Plate from Pouplard-Beatrix, which depicts a mother & daughter scene in beautiful colors with a cobalt blue Marguerite floral decor border. The plate measures approx 9-1/2 and has a scallop detail on the edge. Firing pin marks visible on the reverse. The mother/daughter design can be seen. In the “Leon Pouplard (PBx)” book by Champion & Kervella, page 71. He plate is in very nice condition overall with a rub on the top edge, probably from one of the old tin plate holders typically used in France. See last photo for detail. This piece is characteristic of the many designs of Pouplard Beatrix, as their pottery depicted scenes from French country life as well as animal life, botanicals, etc. That handmade French pottery can have glaze flaws, including loss of glaze and uneven glaze color, inherent to the firing process.
