Desvres LADY DOUBLE SALT Fourmaintraux- Courquin Antique French Faience c. This French Faience Desvres LADY DOUBLE SALT. Is a figural salt, or saleron – a figurine of a double lady dressed in colloquial garb, her ensemble includes fancy dress, and bonnet. Stands backto-back with her twin, each holding a basket in outstretched arms. Is modeled in deep relief; the hand painting, décor and glaze are very well done. Is decorated with stylized accents, and a typical color palette of Desvres , including a creamy white background decorated with blue, green, yellow, and brown. Is marked on the inside base in blue with the stylized mark of FC and 5, These are early marks of FOURMAINTRAUX- COURQUIN, old and original French Art Pottery, made made in the Desvres region of France at the Fourmaintraux Factory circa 1875to 1900. The underside interior is glazed, the base rim foot is unglazed. Has a small notation on the outside side bottom, 1792. The estimated date is circa1880. This Desvres LADY DOUBLE SALT Fourmaintraux- Courquin is in good condition- excepting that the head has been off and has been reattached, with a minor bit of glue showing about the neck. Otherwise, condition status includes minimal normal wear and rubbing, glaze losses, firing flaws, crazing and fretting. Overall, this work is sound, having no chips, cracks, or major defects, and having had no other apparent repairs or restorations. Please see all photos which are a part of this description.
