Lovely antique French faience 4pc 9 5/8″ cabinet plate set, Alphonse Legros or Legros & d’Ainsy maker marks with vivid yellow borders and figural scene centers themed “Histoire Romaine! One of three yellow bordered sets that we’re adding this week, the other two pairs and a bit smaller but they all look lovely displayed together. This set with marks “AL”, likely for Alphonse Legros though references also attribute them to Legros & d’Anizy. The mark reads Manufacture De Decors, Rue du Cadran No. 9, A Paris, sur Porcelaine et Faience”, there are also die stamps into the plates that read “Creil. Each plate with text below the scenes, one reads “Persee Devant Paul Emile, An de Rome 584″, another “Tuberon Recoit Une Coupe D’Argent, An de Rome 585″ and the other “Ambassade Des Romains A Carthage, An de Rome 534″. A lovely set and wonderful historical scenes! Some slight discolorations and surface scratching, also some crazing to the glaze. There are a few small rim chips visible from the back but nothing really to detract from their overall visual & decorative appeal. See pictures for all measurements. We’re easy to deal with.
