Veuve Perrin is named after Pierette Candelot, widow of Claude Perrin; and head of the concern from 1748. The factory used the’petit feu’ technique [using colors painted over the glaze fired at lower temperatures than the so-called’grand feu’ high-temperature colors of cobalt-blue and manganese] to decorate its pieces. Naturalistic flowers and insects became a specialty of the factory. The factory used the petit feu technique of decorating, with successive firings, which let it obtain a variety of colors that rivaled those of porcelain. Some of the wares were decorated with fish and shells, seaside scenes and views of the port of Marseille. Production was characterized by a wide variety of shapes and designs, often extravagant in molding and decoration. Please bookmark this work; Listing Category and List Price are subject to change.
