A very decorative antique handpainted electric table or ceiling lamp in the form of a ceramic faience birdcage. With colourful and original bird on a perch. Marked “France” to the base. Height is approx 44cms x 27cms width. This comes with a written and validated letter of provenance stating that this was the last present given to Countess Nadine of Shrewsbury (well known opera singer) by her husband Lord Shrewsbury before their divorce in 1959. Lord Shrewsbury unsuccessfully sued for divorce in 1958 (there is a lot of information on the internet as it was a sensational divorce scene at the time). The birdcage lamp would have been secondhand then as it is a lot earlier than the 1950’s. And would have been a very expensive present in those times. Signed validation by the auctioneer. Condition is very good. Any wear is really minimal. The cord has recently been replaced with an antique type gold braided flex, a good length so that it can be hung on the ceiling if required. The plug has also been changed and is modern. All is in good working order.. It has been hanging on my ceiling for past 8 years and looks lovely lit up..
