PR French Malicorne IRIS Botanical Plates Pouplard-Beatrix PBx Faience Quimper. For sale is a wonderful Pair of Antique French Botanical Plates from Pouplard-Beatrix, depicting beautiful blue irises with a vine border. The French provincial plates measures approximately 9-3/4 or 25 cm diameter and were made in the late 19th or very early 20th century. The plates are in very nice condition overall; first plate has crazing and a glaze flaw at the edge from the firing pin mark on the back side; there may be a hairline there (see last photo for closeup), doesn’t affect the integrity of the plate for display. The second plate has crazing and some rubs/glaze loss on the outer edges. The plates have firing pin marks on the reverse and glaze flaws typically seen on antique French pottery. Please enlarge photos for closeup views. The irises are characteristic of the many designs of Pouplard Beatrix, as their pottery depicted scenes from French country life as well as animal life, botanicals, etc. Note that handmade French pottery can have glaze flaws, including loss of glaze and uneven glaze color, inherent to the firing process. Please message me with any questions. Coordinates well with Quimper and other French faience pottery. Comes from a non-smoking home. Plates sourced in France.
