Signed K G Luneville French faience basket that looks to be in the Old Strasbourg pattern. From the lack of a country of origin on the basket, I estimate this to be from 1870’s to the late 1890’s in age. After that all imported goods required a country of origin and my research on the Luneville marks indicate that they complied with this law. Wonderful hand painted basket with a floral interior on a body that is decorated in a relief intertwined pattern that strongly reminds me of Christmas ribbon candy. Bowl is about 7″ tall at the handle, 3.5″ high to rim, 7 3/8″ wide top and 5 7/8″ wide at bottom. Hand painted marks, impressed marks are the number 3 and a stylized square 4 petal flower like symbol. Their is no transfer work in the painted design, yo can feel the raised enamel glaze of the flower along with an examination under a magnifying glass did not show any dots indicative of a printed pattern. The flowers were painted free hand. It’s an exceptional basket. The item “Keller and Guérin Luneville Basket Old Strausbourg French Faience 19th Century” is in sale since Sunday, September 22, 2019.
