FOURMAINTRAUX TEA CADDY Antique French DESVRES Faience c1905 Rare & Whimsical. This is a rare and whimsical French Antique FOURMAINTRAUX TEA CADDY made in the Desvres region of France. The subject matter includes a Tea Caddy Bottle, decorated on both sides with figures in bas-relief , one side has a woman in period dress, gown, and ruffled collar, holding her dog on a leash; the other side with a man with cane wearing a period jacket and waistcoat, breeches, and bicorn hat under one arm. The border is artfully modeled and decorated in a floral theme. The bottom underside is glazed; the foot rim is unglazed in the clay typical of the Desvres region. There are two makers marks: markings in a bl ack glaze of FC, 1, 1698, and FRANCE. These are early marks of Charles and Francois Fourmaintraux c. 1900- 1905, old and original French Art Pottery, made at the Fourmaintraux Factory in the mid to late 19th Century. The modeling, decorating, and glaze are well done with typical colors of Desvres pottery: creamy white background decorated with bright blue, green, brown, lemon yellow, and magenta. Please note this is not Quimper or Nevers faience, but Desvres fine French art pottery. Dimensions (in inches): 4. 6 Tall X 3. 3 Wide X 2.2 Deep. Weight 9.3 Oz. The estimated date is circa 1905. This FOURMAINTRAUX TEA CADDY Antique French DESVRES is in very good condition- there is a minor chip fret on the left shoulder. Otherwise, condition status includes minimal normal wear and rubbing, glaze losses, firing flaws, crazing and fretting.
