A very unusual handpainted antique Continental faience/majolica inkwell and pen stand depicting a lovely scene of five (raised) monkeys of differing sizes riding penny farthings. Raised wisteria floral decoration to the sides and inkwell lid which is removeable. Aesthetic period in Japanese style. Stands on four legs. Size is approx 21 x 10cms. Dates to late 19th century. No marks to the base apart from impressed number. There is some faint writing to the base of the inkwell which is hard to make out. Condition is very good. Will be posted out tracked to destination.
