This is a rare large Desvres JESTER TOBY JUG PICHET (or Pitcher) a SEATED PANTALOON in Antique French Faience. The subject matter includes a whimsical jester or Pantaloon seated on a plinth with a patterned costume including a ruffled collar, breeches, and a cap. There is a large rear handle. Jug is modeled in deep relief- t. He modeling, decorating, and glaze are well done with typical colors of Desvres pottery: creamy white background decorated with varying shades of blue, green, iron red, and magenta. The bottom underside is glazed; the foot rim is unglazed. This is old French Art Pottery, made in the Desvres region of France circa 19 10. Dimensions (in inches): 11.0 Tall X 6. 0 Wide X 9. Ondition status includes minimal normal wear and rubbing, typical crazing, minor glaze losses, firing flaws, and fretting. Overall, this work is sound, having no chips, cracks, or major defects, and having had no apparent repairs or restorations.
