Superb and unusual large French faience vase of a cockerel of the Spanish breed of Poultry. Nowadays the Spanish breed is mainly exhibited in shows but was still also a commercial breed, as was the Leghorn, 50 years ago. Spanish are known for their large white earlobes, particularly in the roosters, which is faithfully reproduced here. The flowers treatment was used extensively in the nineteenth century by Massier Vallauris, who made beautiful objects with a practical use.
