Antique French Faience Snuff Box Lille Enamelled Porcelain Earthenware 1767 Patch Pill Trinket Snuffbox. Offered for sale is a gilt metal-mounted French Faience porcelain snuff-box with a dome top and ribbed sides. The hinged dome-shaped cover features an 18th-century courting couple in a landscape with a house and a large industrialized city in the distance. Hand-signed at the underside “Lille 1767″ in floral wreath with a crown. The enamel on the earthenware porcelain box dates to the second half of the 1700s. The unusual-shaped box is constructed of hand-painted tin-glazed earthenware. The 18th-century snuff box measures 1 1/2 inches tall by 2 1/4 inches wide by 1 3/4 in depth. The box is in very fine antique condition with the usual scratches and age-related wear to the bottom, see photos for greater condition detail. The only thing of note is the back corner of the inside of the lid there is an area where the faience meets the bronze frame, there is some earthenware missing here. This may be age-related or it could have been made this way. This in no way detracts from its beauty or functionality and is only mentioned for the sake of accuracy and transparency. The box is solid with the hinged lid functioning properly. Material: gilt metal, earthenware, enamel. Size: 1.5″ tall x 2.25″ wide x 1.75.
