ANTIQUE Emile Gallé FRENCH FAIENCE 19th c. A very rare 19th century pottery redware, terra cotta, ceramic, ? Chamberstick with a finger ring on one side, that was made by Emile Galle (see photo of bottom with initials). This chamberstick depicts a lion holding a shield with the Coat-of-Arms of Nancy, France. It is tin glazed, and hand painted in the colors of the Imari porcelain out of Japan. It measures approximately 6″ long x 5 1/8″ across x 3 3/4 high. This type of ceramic material is rarely seen without a lot of damage or repairs, but this one has no large chips, cracks, or repairs! There are only about 3 tiny paint flakes on the edge, 1 paint flake on the high part of the handle, and tiny nicks around the opening for the candle. There may also be unnoticeable paint rubs on some of the high points. You would have to look for any of these tiny flaws… This is a gorgeous example of the artistic work created by the renowned artist. It will certainly compliment even the best of collections!
