This is a wonderful set of FOUR antique French transferware faience plates in black and white that date to the 19th century. They were made by the French company Creil et Montereau (also written as Creil-Montereau) Each plate measures 7 1/2 in diameter and has a black and white floral border with a sentimental scene described in French. 1 Features a scene of a child chatting with a soldier. The inscription reads “Les enfants precoces” at the top and No. 212 Cesar penses-tu que la guerre puisse durer long-temps? C’est selon si on ne signe pas la paix! 2 Features a scene of an elderly woman reverently touching the portrait of a man. The inscription reads N. 11 La bonne vieille. 3 Features a scene of a child and father stargazing. The inscription reads No. 1 Les etoiles qui filent. The plate measures 7 1/2 in diameter. Moderate age-related staining across the surface of the plate and four small chips on the lower left border (see photos for detail). 4 Features a scene of a soldier reverently holding a flag. The inscription reads No 4. Small amount of age-related staining and three small chips: one in the main design measuring the size of a pencil eraser and two on the left edge border, one the size of a pencil eraser and one slightly larger (see photos for detail).
