For your consideration is this late 18. Century snuff box made in France, Clignancourt. It is decorated with sprays of flowers both on top and surrounding the edges with a motto written in top center. It’s encased in a brass frame with scalloped edged closure. The mark on the bottom has the “s” curved lines with the letter B in center and topped with a crown. Kovel’s book on marks has this made in the area of Clignancourt France, 1780’s. The motto on top is an anomaly to me since most of it is written in English, and perhaps made for export? It’s a lovely early piece and if you have any questions please let me know. Please note that all the information above is research from textbooks and pictures and is an opinion and not a statement of expertise. This is in good pre-owned condition and occasionally a flaw may be missed. Porcelain and ceramics have not been tested with a black light and only examined with a 10x jewelers loop for obvious flaws.
