This very hard to find early to middle 1800s molded redware rooster is most likely Dutch Delft (some ascribe them to France) and crafted of tin glazed earthenware with delightfully varied hand-painted polychrome decoration on crisply molded body. Measuring an impressive 13 5/8″ x 8 ½” x ½, this is by far the largest I have ever seen. And you don’t see many of these. It bears an old label (at least 30 years old) identifying it as early delft. It is in very fine condition for one of these shaped plaques having no cracks or repairs and showing characteristic crazing to the tin glaze and scattered glaze and small chips to the edges.
