My notes from the time Neta bought this about 1980 from and antique show, identify the marks as Sarreguemines. Utzchneider & Co about 1900. I know from Mr. Wikipedia that Utzchneider was the owner of the Sarreguemines plant that started the famous faience factories a hundred years earlier. I no longer have the reference books I relied on at the time. It is a very attractive and real-looking piece, ducks not having evolved much in the last couple hudred years. The base looks like a wicker nest, the top, the top of the duck. I assume this was made as a fancy cookware. Appx 11 x 7 3 pounds. I found one tiny chip by feel, but otherwise it is in super shape.
