Fabulous large French faience Pot Jacquot Toby jug by George Martel of Desvres dating from the mid to late 19th century. Really top quality piece, emulating the colours, glaze and patterns of 18th century versions from Lille and Rouen. He is a classic rotund Jacquot sitting astride a barrel, wearing a floral coat, yellow trousers and a black soft tricorn hat. His hair is swept into a long plait that forms the handle down his back. An unusual and rare form, beautifully modelled and painted. He measures 11″ high, 7 1/2″ wide and 6 3/4 deep. Condition is very good. A few small glaze and paint flakes as is common with tin glazed faience wares. Marking, numbers and what looks like a faded, smugges’George Martel.
