Rare 19th Century Quimper French Faience Pottery Plate – Signed’HB Only 1880s. Une Jeune Bretonne “Pont de Bois”. Lovely hand-painted faience French faience plate by the HB Factory (Grande Maison, de la Hubaudiere) at Quimper, France. Depicted is a delicately painted young Breton girl in traditional costume, holding her stick and standing in a farmyard. The edges of the plate are lightly scalloped and the borders are painted with elegant folk art floral spays alternating with’Ermines Tail’ designs. A fine example in fine condition. DIAMETER – 9 1/4 (23.5 cm). No crazing or scratches to the front painted surface. Small (1/8 diameter – 3mm) shallow nick to the back, near the rim, not visible from the front. No hairlines or repairs. This piece will be a quality addition to any collection of Quimper Pottery or European Faience and will display beautifully in any Folk Art, French Country – Provincial, Spanish Revival, Art Nouveau, or Arts and Crafts decor.
