RARE 19th Century SARREGUEMINES French Empire Faience Woman Figural Oil Lamp, Electrified 39. This rare figural oil lamp is approximately 39 tall to the top of the chimney. The base is a figure of a woman forming a column is approximately 17″ tall and marked on the base “SARREGUEMINES” and the number “2241” stamped in the clay, and “1530” and “I8 in gold. According to one reference this mark for Sarreguemines pottery covers the period of 1835 to 1900. Hand decorated gold stylized Flor de Lis decoration on the base and on the oil fountain above. Condition: Electrified by previous owner, small glaze chip that has been touched up on the base, see photos. Sarreguemines is located on the border between France and Germany. Faience and Majolica pottery was produced there from the 1700’s through the 20th Century. The area was transferred to Germany after 1871 upon the conclusion of the Franco-Prussian war, then back to France in 1918 after the First World War. See our other listings for great items!
