OFFERED FOR SALE, a French blue-and-white faience tureen by Sarreguemines, Marines, with multiple hallmarks indicating it was manufactured between 1890 and 1918; see photographs for actual hallmarks. The interior of the lid has the letter “H”… Not shown in a photograph. Two of the photographs show the underside of each handle. The tureen is in very good antique condition with no chips or cracks, though a few small “age spots”. There is a different nautical or marine image on all four sides with coastal landscapes including boats, clouds, and seagulls. I have read it’s representative of the coast of Normandy. There is also an image of clouds and seagulls on the interior bottom of the tureen. Handles, rims, and finial all represent undulating waves. When it was acquired by me, I was a little unsure of how to orient the lid since it does not fit down into the tureen but, rather, sits atop the tureen rim. In any event, I discovered the two wider scalloped indentions fit over the handles. The tureen measures 10 1/2″ wide (handle to handle); lid measures 11″ at widest point; 7 in height (including finial). It is a stunning piece that is both decorative and functional. It is in very good antique condition. The item “Antique Sarreguemines Marines Faience French Blue & White White Tureen Hallmarks” is in sale since Tuesday, June 16, 2020.
