Includes a seated boy with an expressive face with whimsical stare. Is wearing a period style patterned ensemble including a long coat, breeches, and boots; holding two large baskets and hands folded on top of his lap. Has modeling, decorating, and glaze well done with typical colors of Desvres pottery: creamy white background decorated with blue, yellow, green, iron red, and manganese. Has a slightly recessed bottom underside which is glazed; the bottom foot rim is partly unglazed; there is a vent hole from the original making. Was made in the period of the. Fourmaintraux Freres, is old and original French Faience Art Pottery, made at the Fourmaintraux Factory in the Desvres region of France from 1879 to 1903. Has a makers mark on the underside: a marking in manganese under glaze of F. The estimated date is circa 18. This French Antique Fourmaintraux Freres BOY WITH BASKETS DOUBLE SALT is in very good condition. Noting on the back right outside at the base there is a glaze slip that appears to be from the original making. Condition status includes minimal normal wear and rubbing, glaze losses, firing flaws, crazing, and fretting. Overall, this work is sound, having no chips, cracks, or major defects, and having had no apparent repairs or restorations. Please see all photos which are a part of this description. This style includes production techniques whereby tin glazes and decorations are applied and worked in stages upon a modeled terra cotta pottery form and fired several times in a kiln.
