You’re viewing an antique, (1800’s) Les Islettes, Madame Bernard with Umbrella, hand painted French faience, plate produced by’Les Islettes’ a manufactory of exquisite French pottery. The woman with parasol [Madame Bernard] was the wife of thefactory’s founder. The’Les Islettes’ faience factory in Bois d’ Epense, wasfounded by François Bernard in 1764. The factory began with 30 workers andmaster painters from the other centers and by the beginning of the 19th centurysome 200 people were working in this. The images of Madame Bernard were one of the most famous and distinctive motifs of Islettes. This plate been on display along with other antique faience pieces in our family home for over 30 years. Please review the photos carefully, and remember it is a handmade/painted piece of art and history. There is some very minor chipping on the edges as expected, but the colors are beautiful. There are no repairs, truly an exquisite piece of art! I will be listing more French Faience pieces in the coming week.
