French Faience Octagonal Plate Chinoiserie Scene Hand Painted. For your consideration is an amazing old French faience decorative plate. Exquisitely hand painted in Chinoiserie taste with cobalt blue and iron red, some green and yellow over bluish grounds. Lavish, intense and well detailed river scenery with a boat and two figures, one of them ashore, surrounded by traditional Chinese landscape. Interesting octagonal shape with wavy borders. Marked / hand signed underglaze in blue and numbered B-15, additional research needed for detailed identification. 9.75″ diameter (across) x 1.5″. Weighs about 1 lb. Condition: Very Good overall. A minor glaze flake at the top rim, a hardly noticeable short surface hairline on the underside of the border, both pictured, altogether commensurate with age and use. Age related glaze craquelures.
