Very Fine Emile Mousseux Marlotte Faience France Sandstone Vase, c. This exceptional vintage Marlotte Faience (Faiencerie d’art de Marlotte) was made by Emile Mousseux sometime during the period from 1916 to 1933. It’s one of his artistic sandstone pots–a technique he developed–and is handthrown in a bulbous form with a flared neck extending from the top. The decoration features a very deep blue ground with a poured lighter blue glaze with flecks of gold and a lot of variegation. This vase has a lot of texture, with a very tactile feel, and has a nice organic quality. A very fine example of an important and difficult-to-find pottery from the early part of the 20th Century. The dimensions are 3-1/2″ high x 4″ in diameter (at widest); 2″ in diameter at the rim; the base is 2″ in diameter. This is in excellent original condition, with two minuscule in-the-making glaze pops to the surface. Otherwise, it’s flawless. Incised on the bottom E. (for Emile Mousseux) Marlotte.
