Set of 7 Rare 1820 P&H Choisy Faience Pottery Transfer Plates, Hunting Scenes. Wonderful antique early French porcelain transfer ware plates depicting a man and his dog in different stages of their hunting adventure. Each plate is titled and numbered. There are 12 in this series, I have 7 of them. They were made around 1820 by P&H Choisy, France. They measure 8.5 in diameter and is black and white transfer enhanced with hand coloring. Is a busy band of embossed molded scrolls, harps, urns and boats like motifs. Green trim around both sides of the band. The plates numbered and titles. #1 – le départ (The Departure). #3 – L’arrêt de Surprise (The Surprised Halt). #4 – Le chargée (Loading of gun). # 5 – Amorcé (prime). # 8 – Le repos (the rest/break). #10 – Le tir en l’air (the shot in the air). #12 – L’apprêt (game, I think). Impressed on the reverse “P&H Choisy”, the plate dates to the 1820s, and is in good, as found estate condition. They do show some wear considering they are around 200 years old, mostly some glaze chip on the rim (easily fix with a little touch up) please see the last photos, and areas of wear to the reverse. No cracks or color fading. NOTE: Please refer to photos for more detailed condition they are part of the description.
