Pair Antique French Faience Porcelain Cockerel Plates La Ruche c1920. Stunning pair of French hand painted cockerel plates made by the St Amand Faiencerie in the early 1900s. It is getting harder to find these beautiful plates and this is the first time I have found one with publicity written on it nevermind a pair. La Ruche’ was an artist’s residence in Paris which housed some of the best artsitic talent in the early 20th century. Just imagine Chagall, Delaunay, Modigliani, to name just a few may have eaten from these’plat creux’ as the French call them. These plates are in superb condition and the beautiful yellow ochres, greens and reds of the glazes are still stunning. Despite being a pair you can slight differences due to them being painstakingly hand painted. A fantastic decorative and highly collectable item. 27 cms in diameter each.
