This charming French inkwell is complete, which is very rare for these antique ones. The piece has a ceramic base with dark ceramic color on the bottom, a metal insert and inside that a glass insert and a sculpted lid. The top has three holes for dip pens to go in and the sides and top are decorated with small flower sprays and a painted border. There is one flaw: the lid has at one point become detached and a crafty Frenchman has reattached it with a copper wire. This makes for a bit of play in the lid, but it otherwise functions fine. The ceramic base also has seen a life of use and has a number of small chips to the rim and one bigger one on the bottom (the last one you do not see, but it is there). The piece has lots of character and dates to the middle of the 19th century. Measurements are: 4 3/8″ diameter and 4 1/8″ height.
