Antique 19thC French Faience de Moustiers Grotesque Hand Painted Platter Plate. A beautiful hand painted polychrome faience platter. It is made by the Moustiers faience makers, situated in the Provence in the south of France. It has the’Grotesque’ pattern, that was first used in the 18th century. The pattern is known for it’s mythological creatures. This platter depicts two figures, one playing the flute and the other with a bow and arrows. They are surrounded by tropical plants and birds. It is marked with an x on the back, often found on Moustiers faience. It was probably made in the late 19th century. Length: about 17 inch / 43 cm. Width: about 12 1/2 inch / 32 cm.
